Cultivating Healthy Image and Style Habits

Welcome 2019! A new year brings a fresh opportunity for new habits that can lead to a happier, healthier and more harmonious you.  Some of us address diet and health. Others concentrate on careers and professional development. Still others focus on finance. While all these areas are certainly worthy of our attention, there is one important area that we often neglect.

How many of us set any intentions around self-appreciation and a good self-image?

As an image consultant and life coach, I understand how hard we are on ourselves. I empathize with how busy we are. What’s more, I appreciate how easy it is to put our time and energy into other areas of our life that seem more important. But the truth is how we look and feel about ourselves factors into everything we do.

Studies show that there is a direct correlation between how we look and feel about ourselves – to how others feel about and treat us – to how successful we are in our personal and professional lives, not to mention our quality of life. Hmmm. It begs the question…

What might change for you if 2019 was the year that you honed your image, enhanced your style and embraced your appearance?

Imagine getting that new job. That second compliment. Or that third date. Imagine standing a little taller. Walking into a room with more confidence. Or catching a glimpse of yourself…and smiling. Imagine that 2019 is the year that you, once and for all, love your look and yourself!

Forget the “Bird Box” challenge. I’m challenging you to devote the time, energy and money to love the skin you’re in!

It all begins with some of the healthy image and style habits I’ve listed below. Please don’t feel compelled to adopt them all at once. I invite you to instead try them on, one at a time, and see as how each “fits” (and feels). In addition, try not think of these as “all-or-nothing” New Year’s resolutions.  Instead embrace them as gentle, loving, shifts to help you connect to how fabulous, capable, amazing and gorgeous you truly are~

Get out of the habit of criticizing your body when trying on clothes that don’t flatter your body type.

Get into the habit of observing what works and discovering clothes that naturally enhance your assets and minimize any challenge areas.

Get out of the habit of settling for bargains or hand-me-downs or past-season discounted clothes.

Get into the habit of paying full price for something you love and will wear often.

Get out of the habit of throwing on the same old thing day after day.

Get into the habit of taking time to create “new” outfits from your wardrobe and use more of what you already own.

Get out of the habit of adding new items to an already overstuffed closet.

Get into the habit of having a well-edited closet by eliminating clothes before adding new ones.

Get out of the habit of running out the door without your makeup on.

Get into the habit of scheduling enough time to put your best face forward.

Get out of the habit of being envious of what others are wearing (compare and despair).

Get into the habit of studying well-dressed women and trying new styling techniques.

Get out of the habit of putting on clothes that you “sort of” like.

Get into the habit of enjoying how you feel in clothes and accessories you love.
