5 Key Pieces for the Holidays

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! You know how the song goes… “There will be parties for hosting, marshmallows for roasting”… But alas, what will you wear? We know you have a lot to do these last few weeks before year-end, so let’s keep it simple and take some of the stress out of getting dressed.  With just 5 easy pieces, your holiday wardrobe can go from cold-weather drab to festive and fab!

Fabulous Fur – Whether real or faux, fur is an important part of the equation this season – not to mention a must-have, luxe element for the holidays. Sure you can opt for a full-length coat but you can also add fur in smaller amounts. From a fur vest to a fur stole, there are plenty of options to “top off” your look. Fur trim can also add a festive touch to everything from a cardie to winter booties. For added versatility, why not look for a detachable fur collar to crown any sweater or blouse. This tactile texture can transform your steady-eddy staples into a fabulous and festive ensemble.

Dazzle in a Dress – Whether you are hosting or attending a holiday gathering, finding a pretty party dress is key. Don’t let the stress of the season overtake the fun of finding the right one. With so many styles, colors and silhouettes this season, the perfect dress IS out there. Is sparkle speaking to you? Unleash your inner diva and consider a dress with shimmer and shine. If you shy away from sheen, you can still make a statement with your fabric choices.  Opt for a festive and on-trend velvet or lace. Or simply step away form basic black and embrace a holiday hue like red, ivory or green.

Festive Flats – With all of the standing (and perhaps dancing!) you may be doing at holiday parties, there’s no better time than now to put your best foot forward. When looking for the perfect seasonal shoe, don’t think it has to be a heel to be holiday-ready! A chic and seasonally appropriate flat can decorate your dress and take your festive attire to the next level. Look for interesting details like crystal or sequin embellishments. Consider a ballerina flat rendered in gold or silver metallic leather. Or opt for a loafer in a holiday plaid or patent leather.  By thinking about chic AND comfy, you feet will thank you. Consider a festive flat a mistletoe-must!

Party Pants – With all your holiday invites, you may want to give your party dress a rest. A great pair of pants for the winter is an absolute essential. This season we’ve got options beyond the skinny and slim.  Why not try a wide-leg silhouette? They add a dramatic flair (pun intended) to anything you pair them with. Plus they are universally flattering, as a wider leg balances the hips and visually narrows the waist. If you want to keep it on the straight and narrow, why not opt for a playful pattern?  From plaids to paisleys, I’ve seen quite a few this season that qualify as party-ready.  Note: if a 5-pocket jean-style pant is more your speed, now is the time to ditch the denim and opt for a more fun and festive faux suede or brocade.  The good news is that long after the holidays, a bold bottom will still add evening appeal.

Enchanted Earrings – For many years now, the statement necklace has been getting all the attention.  This season it’s time to witch things up with a beautiful drop or chandelier earring. A longer earring brings light and luster where you want it the most – at your face. Your statement earrings can have mixed metals, tiers of gemstones or be of varied lengths. Think fun, festive and fabulous!  This is your time to shine so for holiday, bigger and bolder is better.  Add a gorgeous and glam pair of evening earrings now and enjoy them for seasons to come.

It’s possible (if not probable) that you already have the foundation of your holiday look already in your closet. An “LBD”, black blazer, or pencil skirt is a great start. Just add one or two seasonal, sizzle pieces to take your wardrobe basics from workhorse to wow in a wink!
