How’s it going?
I mean, how is it really going??

So often our knee-jerk reaction is to answer this question with the default – “fine” or “well” – without really giving the question much thought.  Admittedly, it’s easier and probably what person asking the question wants to hear. But how true is it?

For some of us, things really are going well. For others, things are going less well than we might like or let on. And then there’s another group who feels like nothing’s really wrong, but nothing’s really right. If you’re feeling this way, something may be nagging at you, but you may not know what.

Whichever camp you fall into, there is a tool that may be helpful to you. It’s called the Wheel of Life. It’s been around for decades and has been very effective in helping people experience more fulfillment and joy in their lives, even if they are not particularly unhappy.

To give credit where credit is due, Paul Meyer, a pioneer in the business of personal development and life coaching, is the creator of the modern-day version of the Wheel of Life. And coaches like me have adopted (and adapted) the Wheel for use with our own clients.

At its core, the Wheel of Life is an easy-to-use visual tool that can help you quickly understand how balanced or fulfilled your life is in this moment.  (I sometimes refer to it as a “satisfaction snapshot.”)  The wheel represents the totality of your life and each spoke represents a particular aspect. When one area of your life becomes the focus and others are ignored, the wheel becomes unbalanced, or “wobbly.”

The Perfect Sounding Board
I loved the time that I spent working with Carol. She is the perfect sounding board, and provides such a great balance of probing questions and guidance that helped me make become more focused and clear about how to move forward. What I was able to learn and achieve by working with Carol was more than I could have ever hoped for on my own.

An Invitation

I invite you to download the Wheel of Life.  Without overthinking it, rank your level of satisfaction in each area, with 1 representing the lowest level of satisfaction and 10 representing the highest. Connect the numbers with a straight line to create a second, inner wheel. Examine the wheel you have created and then ask yourself…

“If I want to travel far with this wheel, how bumpy would my ride be?”

Think about which categories you’d most like to improve and which one(s) you’d like to start with. Then create an action plan, with small, manageable steps. You can certainly do this on your own, but I would be honored to assist you.  Either way, I hope you enjoy the journey.
